Asian Le Mans Series Announces Further Changes

The Asian Le Mans Series has had a troubled genesis with low entry numbers and a new reduced calendar announced recently.

Series organisers (together with the ACO) have now released a new set of sporting regulations, in an attempt to “significantly reduce the financial costs for teams for the season, not only in terms of registration fee but also specific team operating costs.”

The new regulations see the GTE class withdrawn for the 2013 season, no takers having been found for the class thus far. The revised GT class now consists of GTC and GTC AM.

The GTC AM category has been created to attract gentlemen drivers’ teams to enter and compete in world class endurance-racing.

The changes now allow for the first and the second place GTC teams for the series to be awarded entry into the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours, in the GTE AM category as well as the winner of the LMP2 category gaining an auto entry for that class too.  If the Series attracts an LMPC class entry that class winner will be invited to take part in the 2014 Le Mans Test Day

The AsLMS has also announced an extended entry deadline – 30th June 2013 – in a further attempt to attract additional entries.
