VLN News Round Up

Soren Herweg reports that there are plenty of intriguing things going on in the Green Hell

With the VLN Season looming, just about two months until the traditional testday, its time for a catch up with all the news that have been swirling around the Green Hell since the season finale.

First of there is Timbuli-Racing announcing two signings for this coming season, joining last seasons holdovers Marc Hennerici, Norbert Siedler and Marco Seefried aboard one or two Porsche 911 GT3 R will be Pierre Kaffer and Christopher Brück. This will make Timbuli-Racing a very hot contender for overall victories, after the young team scored one podium finish in their maiden season. (We're pretty sure that Pierre isn't the one in the middle!)

Joining the recently announced TMG GT86 Cup in the group of Cup Classes will be the Opel Astra OPC Cup. Developed by Opel in conjunction with Kissling Motorsport the two litre turbo charged Astra offers the team a competitive package for a reasonable price. Good news is that the batch of 20 cars has already been sold, making the Cup Class for the Astra OPC a hot commodity for the overall championship.

Back in 2012 DSC brought you the news that the Lexus LFA GTE-Concept was likely to race in this years Nürburgring 24 Hours and if you look at the pictures that Toyota Germany has released this week its now official that the GTE-Concept will hit the track this year. Alongside the LFA two Toyota GT86 will also be fielded by Gazoo-Racing, Masahiko Kageyama, Hiroaki Ishiura and Kazuya Oshima have been confirmed as drivers.

Shortly before Christmas a big bombshell broke, as Manthey-Racing and Raeder-Motorsport announced that they would be merging their operations. Its not know yet what effects this will have on this coming VLN races, or if the merger for now will concentrate on the road car businesses of both teams. But DSC is on this story and will meet team principal Olaf Manthey and the brothers Nicki and Martin Raeder in the coming days for a chat on their 2013 plans.
