One week before the season kicks off

Weather permitting this time next week DSC will bring you all the news and sounds from the VLN Test- und Einstellfahrten, the test day in the «Green Hell» that kicks off the season around the Nürburg. Right now all the track work should be finished but the weather forecast is calling for snow throughout the week, which might lead to the cancellation of the test. But anyways it is looking good for the season opener on March 23rd. So its about time for another catch up.

Last years championship winning team LMS Engineering will stay in the class SP3T, for turbocharged 2,0 Litre engines, but after selling its VW Scirocco will switch to an all new Audi TT-RS. The team around Andreas Lautner is developing parts of the car on their own, which is the reason why their new weapon of choice will miss the first VLN race. Reigning champion Christian Krognes is back to defend his title, being joind by new signing Ronnie Latinne. Ullrich Andree, who was also part of last years driver squad, will join them for a partial campaign. For the first race Christian Krognes will race in last years VW Scirocco that’s now fielded by AC Inzell, keeping the Norwegians championship hopes intact.

The third reigning VLN champion Dominik Brinkmann is moving up the career ladder, the young gun will be part of the newly formed Haribo Junior Team, where he’ll share a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with fellow junior Mario Farnbacher and their mentor Christian Menzel. Besides the Cup Porsche Haribo Racing Team will also be fielding their Porche 911 GT3 R in 2013 spec, with last years drivers Hans Guido Riegel, Mike Stursberg, Richard Westbrook and Emmanuel Collard all retained for Haribo’s assault on the VLN, Nürburgring 24 Hours and Blancpain Endurance Series.

In our last VLN news round up we brought you the news that Dunlop had signed an agreement with Black Falcon providing them with tires for the 2013 season, this lead many questions as to whether last years partner Rowe-Racing would be back with the flying D. And the answer is clearly yes and with a bang. The team around Hans Peter Naundorf is planning on fielding up to three Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 in this years VLN and possibly also the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Last years drivers Klaus Graf, Jan Seyffarth, Alexander Roloff, Thomas Jäger, Roland Rehfeld, Michael Zehe and Marko Hartung are all back with the team and have Lance-David Arnold, Reinhold Renger and Nico Bastian as their new teammates.

Another tire manufacture pushing hard around the Nürburgring is Japanese firm Falken Tires and they will once again field a Porsche 911 GT3 R, which has been updated to the latest wide body spec. The strong driver line up of Sebastian Asch, Martin Ragginger, Peter Dumbreck and Wolf Henzler will once again be able to try out the latest development tires on their 911.

While the track wasn’t ready to be driven on this past Friday, which lead to the cancellation of multiple test days, Opel still invited the teams of the newly formed Opel Astra OPC Cup to the Nürburgring to hand them over their new cars. In total 20 cars were given out to the customer teams. The following teams were the lucky ones to be chosen for the new Cup: Bonk Motorsport, Carbon Racing Team, Düchting Motorsport, Götz Motorsport, H + E Performance GmbH, Lubner Motorsport, Mathol Racing, Packeisen Motorsport, PB-Per4mance, Peter Utsch, Raceunion Teichmann Racing (2 cars), Supersonic Racing Team, Team Camp David, TKS Motorsport (3 cars) and Weiland Racing.
