Lamborghini For British GT

Britain’s only Super Trofeo team, Automobili Lamborghini Racing Team UK will contest the British GT this season in the GTC class.

Having run a single car team in last year’s Blancpain Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship the team plans to expand  to two cars in the 2013 championship.

“Negotiations are very close to being completed for the first car and we are now having numerous enquiries for the second”, said team manager Phil Ellis. “The  ‘fastest one-make’ championship in the world is one of motorsports best kept secrets. It gets no coverage in the UK media, but offers a fantastic challenge to gentlemen drivers to pit their skills against pros but at a lower cost than GT3.”

Ellis went on to explain that  “last year’s cars at Spa were much quicker than GT3 on the straights but slower in the corners due to less advanced aero. Lamborghini have announced a revised aero package for this year with a massive increase in downforce so we expect a great car to take to Europe”. The European Blancpain Super Trofeo Championship consists of Monza, Silverstone, Paul Ricard, Spa, Nurburgring, plus a World Finals event yet to be finalised.

“Ideally we would like to run at least one of these “one-make” championship cars in British GTC this year especially as it was British GT promoter, Benjamin Franassovici who was the catalyst in getting the team introduced to Lamborghini last year,” Ellis continued. “Benjamin was initially interested in getting the Super Trofeo car into last year’s GTC championship, but we saw the opportunity to go to Europe as the factory supported UK team and it had paid off. Now the team wants to build a British GT arm to its operation.”
