ADAC GT Masters Eurospeedway Lausitz – Race Reports
Audi Dominance Finally Broken

Race 1

Because of a strong rainfall shortly before the start, the presentation laps was cancelled and the race began behind the safety car. Polesitter Jan Seyffarth was able to lead the opening laps of the race, but he had strong competition from Christopher Haase, who was returning to the series as part of a two car effort by Phoenix racing.

After the round of pit stops Christian Abt was able to regain the lead from the Phoenix R8, now driven by Henri Moser.

But with about five minutes left on the clock the young Swiss was able to get past the former DTM driver to regain the lead and hang onto it until the chequered flag. Second place went to the Abt R8 of Seyffarth and Abt, which meant the mid-season championship lead for Abt.

Third went to the second Phoenix R8, this one driven by Christopher Mies and Michael Outzen, capturing a perfect race one for the Eifel based team.

After falling back in the opening minutes the Corvette of Luca Ludwig and Marc Hennerici was able to finish fourth, passing the Porsche of Tim Bergmeister and Frank Schmickler in the closing rounds.

Race 2

Christian Hohenadel was able to hold off his teammate Marc Hennerici at the start and was gone about five seconds until the first round of pit stops. This was when the Hennerici Vette lost a lot of time due to a Stop-Go Penalty, demoting his partner Luca Ludwig to the back to pack.

The win for Hohenadel and his partner Toni Seiler was never really contended, but behind them an intense battle for the final two steps on the podium took place.

It was between one of the Fischer Racing Ford GT, one Rosberg Racing R8 LMS and one of the Leipert Ascaris.

Christoffer Nygaard was able to hold of the other competitors, scoring the second place for Fischer Racing; their best result in the championship. Third place went to the Ascari of Marcel Leipert and Daniel Keilwitz, which meant the first podium finish for an Ascari in the German championship.

Championship leader Christian Abt and his partner Jan Seyffarth weren’t able to reach the points, by finishing tenth.

Sportscar legend Walter Brun, who made a guest appearance in the championship, finished 16th in race one, while improving by one spot in race two.

The next round of the ADAC GT Masters takes place at the Nürburgring on August 21st- 23rd, supporting the Le Mans Series’ 1000KM Nürburgring.
