71 Entries Posted For 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours

A press release from the ACO today reveals that a total of 71 entries have been received for the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours, the total equalling the number of entries in 2012 and recovering to that level after a much lower total last year.

The release also makes it clear that all 71 entries are potentially of the required quality to take to the grid proper though only 55 slots are available (plus the Green GT entry in the Garage 56 slot).

30 entries have been received in GTE (Pro and Am) with 41 entries across the LMP1 and LMP2 classes.

16 cars are already guaranteed an entry through their various successe3s in the 2012 season of course but even a conservative assessment of the potential LMP2 entries indicates that there are some surprises to come there, 28 different LMP2 cars raced at least once somewhere in the world in 2012 and that total seems to indicate that t there is potential for the total to increase this season.

The Selection Committee met on the evening of 23 January under the presidency of Pierre Fillon, the ACO President, to draw up the list of teams invited plus 10 reserves.  Their decisions will be announced in Paris on 1 February.
