BMW Sports Trophy Team India For FIA GT Series

BMW Sports Trophy Team India are the latest squad to sign up for a season in the FIA GT Series, the new team will enter a single BMW Z4 for Indian driver, Armaan Ebrahim.

The team has been formed from key personnel from the Spanish based Sunred team and their operations will be overseen and managed by Franck Tiné.

Ebrahim (23) has formerly raced in single-seaters, particularly Formula 2, A1 GP, where he represented his homeland and GP2. Last season Armaan competed in the Indy Lights series. Ebrahim had a taste of GT racing last September when he drove in a Sunred Ford GT alongside Benjamin Lariche at the Moscow GT1 event finishing 9th.

BMW Sports Trophy Team India will begin their 2013 campaign at Nogaro next weekend for the opening round of the FIA GT Series. BMW Sports Trophy Team India will shortly announce a team mate for Ebrahim and they will race in the Pro-Am class of the FIA GT Series this season.

Armaan Ebrahim: Driver: “Moving from Formula Cars to GT Cars will be a new challenge though I had a taste of it in Moscow last year. The FIA GT Series looks impressive and I like the way SRO runs the whole series. I also liked my GT experience last year and thus have finalised a full year’s drive for this year. I do look forward to working very hard and closely with the team to achieve the results we have set our sights on. Driving under the BMW Sports Trophy Team India brand will surely be exciting as for one, I was a BMW Motorsport Scholarship winner when I raced in the Formula BMW Championship and it is good to be associated with BMW again. In addition, if we can put Team India on the podium it will be absolutely great for India.”

Franck Tiné: Team Manager: “I am very proud to announce this new team inside the FIA GT Series. We’ve found great people to work with in BMW Motorsport, and the Indian project with Armaan is really interesting for the future. As a driver, his experience in single-seater will be very valuable and his skills in GT cars are already proven, after the race he did with the Ford GT in Moscow last season. I am sure that we will be able to get excellent results and fight for the Pro Am crown. We are all motivated and really look forward to the first race of this new series, created by Stephane Ratel and his very professional staff.”
