VLN, 51st ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen – Race Report
Audi Makes It Five Winning Makes In Five Races

With Manthey-Racing, Farnbacher-Racing, BMW Motorsport and Mamerow-Racing skipping the fifth VLN race of the season, it was clear that a new winner had to be found during the final race before the 24 Hours Nürburgring-Nordschleife in two weeks time.

When the green light was shown at the start of the four hour race Mattias Ekström, in the Phoenix-Racing Audi R8 LMS, jumped into the lead, and he and his teammates Frank Stippler and Timo Scheider only surrendered it during the rounds of pit stops.

“Awesome, the Nordschleife is a track with a special place in my heart and now I have finally won a race up here. Today we also could fine tune a little bit our car’s set up for the 24 hours and we are all very confident for the big race,” a very pleased Mattias Ekström reported after the race.

This makes it also five races with five different winning-marques, a first in VLN history.

Second place went to the Pole-sitting Porsche 911 GT3 R of Frikadelli Racing. Klaus Abbelen and Sabine Schmitz were finally able to celebrate a podium-finish after a season of ups and downs so far.  Klaus Abbelen: “This year we were really able to take a step forward with our Porsche. We are happy to be back on the Podium.”

Third place went to the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Manthey-Racing. The car of Christian Menzel, Wolfgang Kohler and Frank Kräling being the only one out of the stable of Olaf Manthey taking part in the four hour race.

“My teammates did a good job today, no mistakes; and when they turned the car over to me I was able to get us home in third position,” said a happy Christian Menzel.

The next VLN race is July 30th but before that we of course have the big one, the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
