Russian LMP2 Planned - With Ferrari Power

With thanks to Richard Simpson for the find on a Russian automotive site

2014 looks set to welcome a new Russian funded LMP2 chassis under the NSR Racing banner with the effort headed up by ex Minardi F1 test driver Sergei Zlobin.

"The team" NSR Racing Ferrari "is its own machine. This is not a Dallara,” Zlobin is reported as saying in splendidly googkle translated Russian!.

“The car will be produced in Europe at the same factory that built the Peugeot prototype. We have developed and tested the monocoque, and everything to do with aerodynamics and engines, which are made with the support of Ferrari. The designer’s experience is enormous, and a similar machine has already won Le Mans - but with a different engine and different aerodynamics." What’s not clear is whether this refers to thw car being a derivative of an existing design, or merely an indication to a less informed audience of the established nature of the LMP2 formula.

The plans of the "NSR Racing" outfit also apparently include the establishment of a future Hermann Tilke designed race track in Russia within the next five years, though the location is yet to be confirmed.

Drivers of the new car are likely top include Formula Renault 3.5 racers Mikhail Aleshin and Daniil Move, both are sponsored by SMP Bank, the same backer as the team that fielded a trioof largely Russian crewed GTC class Ferraris at the ELMS race at Imola.
