Austech Abandon Hyundai Genesis GT3/ GTE Plans

Australian motorsport engineering company, Austech Motorsport today announced that after 2 years of research and development they are abandoning their Hyundai Genesis GT program.

Austech Motorsport had designed a GT car based on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe which was intended as a cost effective alternative to cars currently offered in GT3 and GTE. The car would have been able to compete in both categories with minimal changes, allowing teams to compete at all the major International endurance events using the one car.

The decision has been made as a result of Austech Motorsport being unable to secure support from Hyundai for homologation. Current regulations in GT3 and GTE require the manufacturer’s approval of any homologation, without this support the project is not commercially viable.

Austech Motorsport had been in discussions with a number of parties interested in purchasing cars once homologation was achieved. Teams had been planning to compete in ADAC Masters, GT Open and Le Mans among others.

With the belief that GT racing is the one true universal International form of motorsport Austech Motorsport has embarked on designing their own GT car which will be available as a performance road car, a GT4/one make category specification and GT3/GTE. They will be seeking investors and commercial partners for this project in the near future.
