Dunlop Teams Test Three Times Le Mans Distance To Finalise 2013 Tyres

Dunlop has completed a 4 day test at Motorland Aragon in Spain which featured  several endurance teams.

Greaves Motorsport (2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and Le Mans 24 Hour winners), OAK (European Le Mans Series winners in 2012) and Jota all tested new Dunlop prototype tyres for their respective 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and European Le Mans Series campaigns.

At the end of the four days of intensive track activity, the new tyre specifications had covered over 15,000 kilometres, a distance equivalent to completing the Le Mans 24 Hours three times over.

Following analysis of the data, sign off was given for the specifications for this year's European Le Mans Series and WEC seasons. Dunlop is confident of a significant step forward in performance and is aiming to add to its 2011 and 2012 Le Mans 24 Hour and WEC wins.

Paul Bryant, Key Account Manager for Endurance Racing, stated:

"We chose Motorland Aragon as we can create a very high speed layout there that replicates the speeds and forces we'll experience at Le Mans. The layout we chose to use had a near-2km long straight. We took a wide selection of new compounds and constructions for both front and rear and found a combination that will deliver a significant step forward for Dunlop's partners this year."

At least eight of twelve WEC LMP2 entrants and 13 of 22 Le Mans 24 Hour LMP2 contenders are due to be racing on Dunlop tyres. Four of the LMP2 reserve entries have also chosen Dunlop as their tyre supplier.

Also present at the test was Dunlop's Development partner, Rowe AMG, who tested a wide range of 2013 Dunlop GT specifications on their AMG Mercedes SLS cars in preparation for their VLN German endurance campaign. Last year, the Dunlop shod AMG comfortably led the Nürburgring 24h in very wet conditions and Dunlop is targeting victory in the 24 Hour race there this year.
