FIA WEC, 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps - Friday Notes From The Paddock

It was confirmed post session this morning that the incident involving Rob Kaufmann in the AF Waltrip Ferrari also involved the #67 |IMSA Performance Porsche, Anthony Pons reporting that he had passed the Ferrari on the Kemmel Straight before the braking point – he braked as usual for the corner and saw the Ferrari fully locked up in his mirrors before the impact – rear end damage to the 997, front for the Ferrari, the Porsche team were well advanced with repairs at lunchtime with the front end of the 458 disassembled.

Jean Denis Deletraz confirmed our story earlier that Frederic Fatien did indeed break his lower leg in three places in a fall during pit stop practice yesterday evening.

The Gulf Middle East Team owner will be require surgery and will be out of action for several weeks. He will certainly miss Le Mans.

On correction from the earlier session report – It was not one of the Rebellions that ground to a halt in pitlane during the session but rather the #31 Lotus Lola Judd.

In the other team car Kevin Weeda explained his current strategy – “I wanted to see what I felt about the team and the car and I’m very impressed.  I also want to work more with James Rossiter (he met the ex Lotus factory driver whilst taking part in a Lotus T125 evaluation day ain Abu Dhabi), he’s a great driver coach and a very good race driver.  One major advantage too is that he seems to understand what I need with a car set-up – What he does works for me with no problem.”
