FIA World Council Announces Revised WEC Calendar
Seven Of Eight Rounds Confirmed

Following a meeting earlier today in New Delhi, the FIA World Motor Sport Council has announced a revised World Endurance Championship calendar. The changes affect the end of the season, with Bahrain and Fuji swapping places. The date and venue of the final round in China has yet to be confirmed.

The confirmed schedule:

March 17 - 12 Hours of Sebring
May 5 - 6 Heures de Spa-Francorchamps
June 16/17 - 24 Heures du Mans
August 25 - 6 Hours of Silverstone
September 15 - 6 Hours of Sao Paul
September 29 - 6 Hours of Bahrain
October 14 - 6 Hours of Fuji
November (TBA) - 6 Hours of TBA (China)

In detail the changes from the provisional dates announced at Zhuhai are that the race at Interlagos changes from Sunday 16 September to Saturday September 15.

Bahrain’s controversial race switches to the weekend previously allocated to Fuji but retains its Saturday slot. (29 September)

That of course removes the direct clash with Petit Le Mans but Fuji’s revised date (14 October) is less than a week prior to the Road Atlanta classic.

China meanwhile is still without a confirmed date or a confirmed track.

Several other details were announced concerning the WEC:

* Entries open December 19th and close January 18th. The Endurance Selection Committee - comprised equally by members of the FIA and ACO - will meet on the 25 January and the final entry list for the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship will be published on 2 February.

* Exceptionally, additional cars may be admitted for one or more events subject to their conformity with the applicable technical and homologation regulations, and also the interest they will bring to the Championship. These cars will appear in the event classification but will be invisible for the different classifications for the Championship.

* For the Le Mans 24 Hours event only, the manufacturers entered in the FIA World Endurance Championship for LMP1 Manufacturers may, subject to agreement of the Selection Committee, enter a third car, which will be eligible to score points in the Championship. Only the top two classified cars of a manufacturer will be entitled to score points in the Championship however.

We'll have analysis of this news later today.
