How Did That #7 Even Finish, Let Alone Win?

Jan Lammers set the LM P2 fast lap near the end (so our results table needs correcting), but that was before the Horag Porsche suffered another puncture and also had oil pressure sensor problems—losing them another few laps. The Essex RS Spyder meanwhile was only running 45 minute stints at the end of the race due to the battery draining.

Marc Gene won his first race here in Barcelona for a decade. He did however have to cede driving duties for the last 15 laps or so when chronic cramp in his right foot meant that he couldn’t feel the pedals.

Bruni set fast lap in GT2, in the Virgo Ferrari, with only three laps to go. There was no reason to do so but the dashboard electrics had disappeared and he simply didn’t know how fast he was going.

The No. 6 Oreca stopped with a few minutes to go, the team not bothering to fix some gearbox maladies. The car had dropped so far in the standings by then that the team didn’t bother to finish.

The Lavaggi had a piece of debris slam into the cooling duct and it caused some damage to that system. They also had an alternator belt break about the same time and decided to pack it in. The team was actually satisfied with their progress, given that they weren’t expecting to be here.

Rob Bell made it clear at the post-race press conference that the #88 Felbermayr Proton Porsche had employed some rather blatant blocking tactics, presumably in support of their #77 team-mates.

And finally - did you see Michael Vergers' comment about the winning 908 hitting the #32 Zytek? "Next we got to a very tight section and there was an Audi alongside me. I tried to give him room. We went around the turn with me on the outside, still behind another GT2 car and I’d seen in my mirror a Peugeot and a Lola Coupe catching up. When I next looked to my right the Peugeot was actually in the air heading straight for the side of my car. I actually ducked. It hit the side of the car and damaged the radiator." Gene's Peugeot was captured by photographer John Brooks, as it headed for the Zytek - head high! And then it went on to win.....
