Grand-Am – Crown Royal 200 At The Glen – Entry & Preview
20 Over Two Hours

If Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney win this one (that would make their sixth of the season), and if Max Angelelli in #10 finishes fourth, and if Scott Pruett in #01 finishes fifth, all three will be tied on 350 points – with two races left. It really is between these three cars / four drivers now, isn’t it? Colin Braun effectively took himself out of contention with his coming together with Michael Valiante at Montreal, and has paid the price for contact.

This is how the DP points look now.

1 Scott Pruett 324
2 Max Angelelli 322
3 Jon Fogarty / Alex Gurney 315
5 Memo Rojas 299
6 Colin Braun 288
7 Max Papis 276
8 Darren Law / David Donohue 269

It’s DPs only this week (and at Infineon on August 25), and there are 20 cars listed on the Short Course at Watkins Glen. The race is on Friday evening, ahead of the weekend’s Nextel Cup and Busch events, as Grand-Am pursues an even closer association with the stock cars.

There are two or three interesting additions to the entry: Rob Dyson is joined by Andy Lally in the Howard Motorsports Crawford, Rick Knoop and David Murry appear in a Synergy Doran, also Porsche-powered, while the Chase makes its mandated appearance of the year (or even the first of three), with Matt Connolly, Mike Halpin and Shawn Price set to drive.

Jorg Bergmeister is busy at Elkhart Lake so Emmanuel Collard stands in at AJR, while Memo Gidley gets to drive the SunTrust car again. Antonio Garcia is probably in the #39 Cheever entry.

“It’s a short race on the short course with no GT cars, so it will be all about pace this weekend,” says pole specialist Jon Fogarty. “We can’t hold anything back if we want to win this championship, and this is a great venue to let it all hang out.”

If he and Alex Gurney continue to produce the kind of form that has characterised their season, three more wins will tie up the title. They won here back in June, over six hours.
