FIA GT3 Dubai - Race 1 Result

Pre-race technical issues and apparent confusion with the pitlane closing time meant that the start of the race had an element of chaos to it. Fortunately, though, this chaos contributed to a very good race that saw several fine drives.

Luca Pirri recovered from a first lap spin to hand his Martini Callaway Corvette over to Jurgen von Gartzen in second place, and the German veteran overcame stubborn resistance from Rory Bertram in the #31 Berlanga Ascari to win. Earlier, Jonny Lang had led from the start to the changeover, and Bertram was closing the gap at the race end.

Henri Moser and Gilles Vannelet fought back from near disaster to claim third at the death and maintain their championship lead, while Frederic Makowiecki produced another outstanding drive, almost taking fourth at the line having started from a lowly position.

Just two cars remain in the title hunt after today, with Moser/Vannelet leading Pirri/JvG by four points.
