Grand-Am – Crown Royal 200 At The Glen – Qualifying Times
Eight In A Row Jon Fogarty set the pole time at Watkins Glen on Friday – the eighth consecutive pole for the #99 Riley Pontiac, and all of six tenths faster than anyone else. Next best was Nic Jonsson, in the #75 Krohn Riley. Memo Gidley was third quickest in the SunTrust Riley, in which Max Angelelli had had an off in an earlier session. Also going off in practice was Emmanuel Collard, who did so in the session before qualifying. Damage was too severe to fix in the very limited time available, so the #23 AJR Crawford will start from pit lane. Fourth was Mark Wilkins, so a best-ever starting position for the #61 AIM Riley. Christian Fittipaldi was fifth, despite bringing the session to a close when he went off at Turn 1. "We picked up a lot of time in qualifying and we were very close to being in the top two," said a delighted Wilkins. Scott Pruett was another to give the barriers a good whacking – at Turn 11 in session two. Memo Rojas got out at the end of the qualifying session, but could only manage fourteenth. Jim Matthews was an impressive seventh in the #91 Riley, and Kris Szekeres (sharing with this man, below) will start alongside in the SAMAX version, while the Synergy Doran was twelfth (David Murry), the Chase an off the pace 20th.  |
