Grand-Am – Mid-Ohio - Entry List
And Preview A number of drivers have been to Le Mans and back since the Watkins Glen 6 (3.5?) Hours, but it’s back to single class racing at Mid-Ohio this weekend, the DP race on Saturday, GTs on Sunday. The points are as finely poised as ever (oddly, we always seem more concerned with Grand-Am points than we are in any other series, presumably because the points system doesn’t favour race wins, but rather consistency), and this is how they look at the top. DP
Pruett 180
Angelelli 173
Rojas 155
Fogarty / Gurney 150
Papis/Braun 149
Lng / Bergmeister 147
Magnussen 143 GT
Werner 204
Collins / Edwards 193
Miller 192
Tremblay / Lally / Valentine 181
Ham / Dumoulin 172 The Tafel drivers are down in the 120s and 130s. Changeable weather for Thursday’s test day saw Colin Braun / Max Papis fastest in DP. Kelly Collins’ and Paul Edwards’ Pontiac was fastest in GT. Asked (at Le Mans) whether he and Max Papis could still take the DP title this year, Colin Braun felt that they could, “but it won’t be easy”. Perhaps the Thursday form of these two suggests that they’ve turned the corner now. A wholesale change of staff on their car this year has been the root cause of pace that hasn’t quite matched the race-winning style of 2006. Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney seem to have taken over the pace-setting Riley Pontiac role in 2007. An interesting aside: Colin Braun let slip that he and his family live on “a mesa in Texas”, and brother Travis sends this image of the Braun family “compound” (with full approval of the family). Note the kart track… how many miles have the brothers completed around that?
NASCAR next year for Colin Braun – but as reigning DP Champion? The DP entry is almost exactly as we’ve come to expect, but with some changes in GT.
