A raft of other changes will take effect too from the start of 2009. FIA GT Changes - No additional points or success ballast to be allocated after 6 and 12 hours running of the Spa 24 Hours.
- Total is the sole fuel supplier in 2009 and 2010 having won an SRO tender.
- Success ballast will no longer be imposed on a driver as soon as he changes the category and make of the car between two events.
- Maximum success ballast that can be carried on board a car entered in the GT2 category will be increased from 75 kg to 100 kg.
- For categories GT1 and GT2, the rule imposing a reduction of the restrictor in case of winning while carrying the maximum authorised success ballast has been removed, to reduce costs by scrapping the rule on changing the restrictor (imposing a change of the engine set-up).
- The minimum GT2 weight will increase by 45 kg, to decrease the section of the air restrictor by 5%, to increase the ground clearance by 5 mm and to make mandatory the mounting of a 15 mm angle bracket on the rear wing. These changes have been approved unanimously by the Manufacturers who asked the FIA to follow the ACO regulations.
- Subject to the approval of the GT Commission, the deadline for full-season entries to the 2009 FIA GT Championship will be postponed until midnight on March 30th to allow the date and location of the ninth round of the 2009 FIA GT Championship to be approved by the March edition of the World Motor Sport Council.
- A multi-tyre supply system will be introduced, allowing the teams to choose their tyres freely and ensuring that they have equal access to these tyres at a maximum price that has been set in advance and applies to all the proposed makes of tyre.
- The competitors will be obliged to declare the tyres they will use during the season at the time of their entry. The car-tyre combination to be presented by each team for each of their cars at the pre-season testing organised by SRO. Only one change of tyre make will be authorised per season, should the same car/tyre combination already exist.
- The list of the combinations and the tyres’ specifications will be published by the FIA, under the control of the GT Bureau. This implies a change from the free tyre concept (prototype, single tyre production and unavailable for sale) to the concept of the tyres available for sale
- Minor changes to categorisation of GT2 (and GT3) drivers into the Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze categories further defining the meaning of a ‘Works’ driver, re-defining the series results which are examined for each category and specifying that Platinum-rated drivers aged over 60 are automatically reclassified as Silver.
FIA GT3 Changes - The new FIA GT multi-tyre supply system will also be introduced in the FIA GT3 Championship – thereby ending the single tyre supplier status enjoyed by Michelin since the Championship’s inception.
- A scale of success ballast will be introduced, based on that used in the GT2 category of the FIA GT Championship, with 20 kg for the 1st car, 15 kg for the 2nd car, 10 kg for the third, -10 kg for the 4th car, - 15 kg for the 5th car, - 20 kg for the 6th and so on until the last car.
- The deadline for full season entries the FIA GT3 European Championship to be extended to midnight on 16 March with the approval of the Commission
