ILMC/LMS, Silverstone - Fifth Hour Bernhard still leads into the fifth hour - but the #7 Peugeot closed in was only a few tenths of a second behind, knowing that the Audi would have a longer pit stop coming up. Ten minutes into the hour Bernhard came into the pit again. The #1 Audi was refuelled before being pushed back into the box to have its legality panel changed. 2 minutes and 27 seconds later it was was back on track already. One minute to solve its problem, resulting in a round of applause from the team. Bourdais returned the #7 to the pit from the lead when Fässler rejoined. A 1 minute pit stop meant the Peugeot held onto its lead. More important though and very positive for Audi the #1 didn’t go a lap down. Guillaume Moreau in the #15 OAK Racing Pescarolo was given a 30 seconds stop & go penalty for speeding in the pit lane. The #24 OAK Racing Pescarolo of Olivier Pla took over third place - as he was only 1.5 seconds behind his teammate on the track. LMP2 leader Thor-Christian Ebbesvik returned to the pit - but the Boutsen Energy Racing car being pushed back into the box and mechanics scrambled out to work on the car on what was apparently an electrical issue.. As they were doing so Ebbesvik jumped out of the car and Kraihamer got in. RLR Msport’s race weekend got even worse when Rob Garofall lost a wheel on his 123rd lap. The car had made it back into fifth in LMP2 - and fortunately for Garofall he managed to bring the car back to the pit where a new set of tyres were properly secured this time and he went out again - now sixth in class. Tom Kimber-Smith took advantage of Boutsen Energy Racing’s problems and increased its lead in LMP2 to almost a full lap over the Race Performance Oreca #40. Alexandre Premat brought the OAK Racing #24 back to the pit where Olivier Pla took over for a stint to the finish. Jacques Nicolet giving up track time in order for OAK Racing to have a chance of taking an overall podium finish. The sixth pit stop did however mean that the #13 Rebellion Racing Lola #13 went through to take third for the moment. The reason of the #71 AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia retiring from the race was....the gearbox. The team also saying the reason that the Makowiecki Ferrari taking the lead was due to an error by the race officials, which didn’t hold a group of cars at the end of the pit lane under the safety car. Fisichella and Bruni managed to get back into the lead on their own pace. Neel Jani passed Tom Kimber-Smith with an hour and 14 minutes left in the race - making it an all-LMP1 top 10 again. Kimber-Smith himself was still one minute and forty seconds ahead of Michel Frey and two laps ahead of the RML #36. Olivier Pla moved back into third place soon after - with Julien Jousse moving the Pescarolo Team #16 car into fourth overall as Anrea Belicchi emerged from the pit. Giancarlo Fisichella came into the pit from the GTE Pro lead - handing the AF Corse Ferrari back to Gianmaria Bruni for the final hour. At almost the same time Heinemeier Hansson spun his Lotus at turn 3 - the Dane quickly rejoined. After the two Porsches had made their stops as well Frederic Makowiecki was back into the lead - but out of sync in pit stops. |
