Sahlen’s Six Hours Of The Glen – Preview SunTrust Rises From The Ashes The DP and GT fields combine once more for Saturday’s race at Watkins Glen with 19 Prototypes and 26 GTs entered. Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett lead the championship by 20 points in the Chip Ganassi Lexus Riley, but the race will be led away by the SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley; Max Angelelli taking pole (1:42.888) for the team in the car he shares with Michael Valiante less than three weeks after the fire that consumed the team’s transporter and Dallara race car. "All the guys did everything; I didn't do much," said Angelelli. "We lost everything only 17 days ago. Look what they did in only 17 days, putting everything together. It's amazing. This is what they deserve. Now, I want to give them a good race tomorrow." The SunTrust achievement was helped by the session only running to five minutes (of the scheduled 15) after Ricardo Zonta hit the tyre wall in the #76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Lola – something his Peugeot colleagues will be hoping he doesn’t repeat this coming week in France. Second was Brian Frisselle, in the #61 AIM Ford Riley; and third Memo Gidley’s #77 Doran Racing Ford Dallara. In the GT class, the performance penalties applied to the Pontiacs appear to have had the desired effect of leveling up the field; with the top three qualifiers being Mazda, Pontiac and Porsche. Jeff Segal claimed his first pole for the #69 SpeedSource RX-8 with a time of 1:52.329, ahead of the Paul Edwards/Kelly Collins #07 Banner Racing GXP.R. Wolf Henzler completed the top three in the #87 Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche GT3, just a tenth off the Pontiacs time; the top seven qualifiers all beat the existing lap record. The race is due to start at 11.11am, local time and will be started by NFL Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas, for all you Bills fans out there.
