Britcar 24 Hours - Through The Night 

The dsc Ed has been for some shut eye during the wee small hours and, still somewhat bleary eyed, I'm now back at the keyboard and catching up with events of the last few hours.

Race positions at 12 Hours

First things first - The race is running under caution (Fog) and has been for quite some time.

Next - retirements confirmed - Neither the Aquilla nor the Rollcentre Mosler moved after our last updates and are confirmed retirements.

Also on the definite dnf list is the #39 Kevin Clarke BMW, the car had been running as high as 3rd overall but crashed heavily in Ian Donaldson's hands and into retirement. 

There's been diff trouble for the #21 Marcos, the car falling back from its earlier top 10 position but still running at 05:40 in 21st position.

Flying high though is the metronomic Ginetta G40 in 9th overall now and looking entirely untroubled. On pit count back the G40 has been running as high as 7th.

Jay Shepherd had a great 3 hours aboard the #42 Azteca Porsche the car secure in third but 11 laps back.

There has though been a fabulous battle for the lead, John Gaw hunting down Marco Seefried, MJC Ferrari vs JetAlliance Porsche, the gap down to around 20 seconds, which went on for lap after lap until the Ferrari was penalised a lap for pit lane speeding.

Perhaps ominously though the team manager of the leading car has just - at 05:45 - been summoned to the Race Director - speculation abroad that the team may be due a penalty for leaving Martin Rich in the car for longer than the permitted 3 hours. 

The In2 Ginetta has had a dramatic past few hours, a couple of offs have left the car with a 'toe in' issue that the team can drive around in the wet but think they'll have to stop and fix if the circuit dries out.

At 06:05 we count 48 cars running or receiving service on the pit apron.

At 06:28 the Safety car is withdrawn and we are racing again after over 2 hours under caution.
