ALMS, Laguna Seca - Hours 4 and 5 Long Stop for Cytosport - GT as Good as Advertised Just as we started hour 3, Guy Smith brought in the leading Dyson Lola - fuel only. Maybe a topping of other fluids also. Graf in the next lap - Luhr into the car. Then Primat pits - Fernandez into the car. Vilander tries to regain the lead entering 11 on braking, but can’t get the power down quick enough. Advantage Porsche this time. This allows 56 to close up. Meanwhile the 55 is turning very quick time in an attempt to catch up. Fastest lap so far for Dirk Werner - 1:23.797 Falken Porsche retired. Werner all over Gavin for 5th in class. Smith can see the factory Aston Martin ahead. Can he put it a lap down? GT leaders pit. Tires for Risi but issues getting restarted. Driver change for Lizards - Long in and to the lead. 20 Dyson/Oryx pits. Humaid out, Kane in. In GT, Lizards 45 barely over the 56 and 55 BMWs with Gavin lurking. Genoa to the lead in LMPC - Elton Julian in the car. In traffic, the 55 BMW takes second over the team car 56. Fast lap by Hand - 1:23.703 Marcelli back to LMPC lead for Intersport. Genoa, followed by CORE, CORE. Cytosport to the pits. Engine cover off. Lots of looking but not much activity. Championship for the 16 Dyson? We’ll see… Not yet 70% distance. Behind the wall – no power. Electrical again? Yellow #4. Jag Pit stops galore… Cytosport - Graf - “You can’t say it is from the lack of trying. Not really sure what happened. Lost power - I heard a loud noise and then nothing.” Aston Martin and Cytosport are working on the car. According to Aston, they believe they can get the car fired again. Some crew were removing components from a spare engine, presumably to assist with the repair/fix. The keys here for Cytosport are the clock and what happens for the 16. The team needs to get the car out to be able to make the 70% distance and it is not clear if Graf has enough time in the car. At four hours, it is still yellow - Smith (Dyson) leads over Fernandez( Aston Martin) with Kane (Dyson/Oryx) a lap back. In GT, as it goes green is Vilander (Risi) over Gavin (Corvette), Hand (BMW) and Long (Lizard Porsche). Elton Julian (Genoa) leads Gunnar Jeannette in LMPC. GTC is 66 (TRG) over Black Swan. Long gets around Hand for 3rd in class. As Long and Hand battle, they are catching up with Gavin, who is falling back from Vilander. Speculation from Hindy is that the Corvette is on a fuel dictated pace. We’ll see… Smith again pulls away up front - now up 17 seconds on Fernandez. The BMWs are in attack mode. Hand gets by Long and closes on Gavin, while Auberlen multiple times gets next to Long in 11 and down the straight, but can’t make it stick. Then Hand gets by Gavin and eventually Auberlen gets around Long. BMW 2-3, 11 seconds back of Vilander. For the points lead in LMPC, Jeannette closes to within .5 seconds of Julian. Long back around Auberlen for 4th in class, both closing on Gavin, who is about to come in for fuel, tires and a break. Mags to get in… Then Auberlen back around and pulling away. Jeannette around Julian in traffic for the LMPC lead. Smith pushing to a 47 second overall lead. No easing up for Dyson here. Good quiet run for Extreme Speed 01 to 5th in class. Risi Ferrari to the pits. Good stop - Vilander out, Melo in. Tires too. BWM 1-2 again, hand over Auberlen. Lost in the GT and LMPC battles was that Black Swan again has the lead in GTC, now ahead of the 23 AJR Porsche. Good clean run for Level 5. All 3 drivers have been in the car. Currently 6th overall. Cytosport is back on track - they should have the track time to be eligible for points, if they run to the end. They don’t give up, do they? Minus 51 laps, but still trying. Leader to the pits. Full service. Smith out and Cochran in. Fernandez to the lead, who then pits on the next lap, giving the lead back. Full service for the Aston - Mucke back into the car. Cochran +13 seconds at just over 1 hour to go. Both Jeannette and Julian makes stops, Julian briefly taking the lead until he stopped, then Jeannette resumed in the lead - no - Julian leads with 1 hour to go. |
