Motorsport's Longest Living Record Continues

The GX class may have been experimental, may have become a one marque race after the meltdown for the Mazda 6 trio early in the race but it did serve an important function for a significant record.

There was, for the first time since the first race of all here in 1962 (which was a 3 hour race) no Porsche in a podium position in either of the major classes.

The 1,2,3 finish for the little Caymans therefore continued what must be one of the sport’s longest lasting records for a 41st consecutive year.

The achievement for the Caymans was more than that though, in particular the class winning #16 Napleton Porsche car was almost faultless, spent no time behind the wall, had no mechanical issues and suffered only a couple of minor delays due in part to the GX cars having no pitlane speed limiter.

Shane Lewis said later – “Porsche are awesome people and they make awesome cars – To uphold a record as important as that adds something really special to the win.”
