GT Open - Monza - Race 2

Narac-Pilet win Race 2 in Monza ahead of Toccacelo-Giammaria

The International GT Open will go to a grand finale in Barcelona with the fight for the title getting closer still after Sunday's race 2 in Monza, which saw a clear victory of the IMSA Porsche of Raymond Narac-Patrick Pilet ahead of yesterday’s winners, Giammaria-Toccacelo (Edil Cris Ferrari).

CRS's Tim Mullen and Adam Christodolou were third, while championship leaders Barba-Kaffer (AF Corse) took no points.

All this has brought an exciting situation in the standings, which now see Barba-Kaffer leading by 12 points from Pilet-Narac, 15 from Giammaria-Toccacelo and 27 from Lietz-Roda.

In GTS, Marco Frezza-Niki Cadei and Stefano Livio-Lorenzo Bontempelli gave the Kessel Ferraris a double win - fifth place for Jean-Philippe Dayraut means that the gap in the GTS standings is down to just 12 points on Livio-Bontempelli and 14 to Frezza.

At the start, Kaffer was fastest with a great fight between Griffin, Ortelli, Pilet, Toccacelo and Broniszewski (who spun on lap 2) for second. Goodwin and Lavio made contact at the Parabolica and went off-track while Beaubelique was in the sand at Lesmo.

Pilet kept the pressure on Kaffer while Toccacelo was third ahead of Christodoulou, Ortelli and Bontempelli.

Pilet took the lead on lap 7, while Toccacelo was by then a lonely third ahead of six battling red Ferraris: Christodolou, Bontempelli, Garofano, Griffin, Ortelli and Cadei, followed by the Aston of Wiser.

The situation remained relatively stable until the pit stops, which saw Narac emerging as leader with a 10-second advantage over Mullen, with Giammaria, then Frezza (first of the GTS cars), Lietz, Barba, Guerrero (but the Aston GT2 would be penalised with 20” for not serving the entire pitstop handicap), Lancieri, Gruber and Livio, while the AF Corse 430 of Garofano-Rangoni stopped with a broken clutch.

Giammaria would take 2nd from Mullen and started to reduce the gap on Narac, while Barba, who had climbed to fourth, lost good points, going off at the entrance of the Parabolica, after a mistake at the braking point on lap 22.

The race ends with Pilet, Toccacelo and Mullen in the top three ahead of Lietz, while the Kessels of Frezza and Livio make a one-two in GTS, with the Villois Aston of Lancieri-Busnelli third.
