Mika Hakkinen On The Future

The usual Friday ILMC press conference was enlivened no end by the inclusion of Mika Hakkinen into the mix, the double F1 World Champion clearly enjoying his return to racing this weekend after a 4 year break.

Hakkinen has been the AMG Mercedes ambassador to the hugely important Chinese market for the last 3 years and his appearance here is at Mercedes request.

“I was delighted to do it, I had thought that it might be a fun race to do and it is great to have the opportunity.”

The obvious question though is whether we might see the popular Finn return to racing on a more regular basis – On that there was a more positive, though still non-committal answer than the previous answer from AMG.

In answer to a direct question about the potential for future outings for AMG Mercedes at the Nurburgring or even at Le Mans he responded:

“It’s definitely a possibility – I don’t say no at the moment, but I don’t say yes either!  Let’s see how this weekend goes.”
