Le Mans Series, Hungaroring - Saturday Morning Notes

Christian Ried confirmed this morning that the #86 car is a 2007 Porsche 997 and is not upgraded to 2010 spec.

He also confirmed that the team were potentially to enter both the #77 and #88 Porsches for Petit Le Mans but that was now looking increasingly unlikely. “We are taking them to Zhuhai though for sure.”

Nicolas Prost was smiling broadly as he confirmed that he had signed a deal to contest the remainder of the FIA GT1 Championship in the #6 Matech Ford alongside Rebellion team-mate Neel Jani.

The young Frenchman tested well for the team post Spa, a test which was also attended by Antonio Garcia, a man with well established GT1 form (including a Le Mans 24 Hours class win!)

“It was an interesting test.  I raced a Saleen (for Oreca) back in 2007 and a GT1 Viper back in 2005 and while the cars have lost some power since then the gearbox is much better.”

Whilst in GT1 Prost will be looking for overall race wins the objective here in Hungary is necessarily tempered by the presence of the Oreca Peugeot 908:

“Our objective here is to finish at least second.  The Peugeot will be very difficult to beat but our car should be fast and we need to stay out of trouble.  Traffic will be a big factor and that could help us – or not!”

The atmosphere at Team RLR was very relaxed indeed – at least on the outside!

Barry Gates, relaxing pre-session with his team-mates:

“It’s exciting but I don’t think I’m anywhere near as nervous as Rob (Garofall).  The big unknown for me is traffic.  We know the car can be good here, we tested here for two days earlier in the year.”

Rob Garofall (who was indeed both nervous and excited!)

“I can’t help it – this really is a dream come true for me.  As a lad I wasn’t really interested in driving in Formula One or at Indy, it was all about Le Mans. I keep having to stop myself from hugging Barry!"

“As for the weekend – the team have done a fabulous job.  One things for sure, if we do have any problems it won’t be for the want of preparation.”
