Ben Aucott Wins The Citation Cup JMB Maserati Man’s Nogaro Win Takes The Cup Whilst the overall standard of some entrants in the inaugural Citation Cup has hardly inspired world class racing it would be churlish to ignore ahead of next weekend’s Zolder race that Ben Aucott, in his first season of international GT Racing, has already taken the title.
Aucott claimed a fourth consecutive win in Nogaro, in his JMB Racing-run Maserati MC12, a car he has shared with Joe Macari, Alain Ferté and Stéphane Daoudi this season. Second places at Silverstone, Bucharest and Monza were followed by Cup wins at Oschersleben, Adria, Brno and Nogaro. (Neither Zhuhai nor Spa were points scoring rounds in the Citation Cup but Aucott still raced there – 16th at Zhuhai with Joe Macari and an excellent 7th overall at Spa with Macari, Philipp Peter and Marino Franchitti). “It’s fantastic to win the Citation Cup, which is my first title, we’ll have to see what we can do in Zolder to finish off the season,” said the 2007 Citation Cup winner. The #16 JMB Maserati will be crewed by Aucott and Stephane Daoudi at Zolder, the car heading a four car Citation Cup entry with the second (#15) JMB Maserati, the Selleslagh Racing Team Corvette C5-R and the PMB Motorsport Porsche 996 GT2-R. Citation Cup racing has seen a variety of entrants campaign a wide range of GT1 machinery of various vintage and quality. There is no news yet on whether it will make a return for the 2008 season, set to be the last year for the current breed of GT1 machinery if the FIA / SRO proposals are approved. |
