EMCO-Gears Classic, Mid-Ohio – Qualifying
Donohue & Law On Pole By A Fraction

Two thousandths of a second isn’t a long time in the overall scheme of things, but it was enough to give pole position to the #58 Brumos Porsche after David Donohue’s late-session efforts. As well as breaking the existing track record, Donohue also claimed his third pole of the season; although he has yet to convert a pole into a win (but neither has anybody else since August 2007).

Jon Fogarty looked to have secured pole for the #99 GAINSCO Pontiac Riley, but was undone at the end; although with a bit more luck things could have been different; "With the resurfacing recently of the track it takes a long time for the pace to come so I knew it was going to be important for us to be around at the end of qualifying," said Fogarty.  "On my fourth flying lap I completely destroyed my right front tire when I locked it up on the back straightaway.  I feel bad about that, but I think there is more potential in the car than what we saw in qualifying.  But good job for the Brumos guys.  I didn't realize it was their third of the year.  That's enough for them."

Series leader Memo Rojas qualified the #01 Chip Ganassi Lexus Riley in fourth position, just behind Mark Wilkins’ #61 AIM Autosport Ford Riley.

In GT, Lawson Aschenbach took the #72 Autohaus Motorsports Pontiac GXP.R’s second pole of the season, with Watkins Glen winner Jeff Segal just a hundredth of a second slower. Andrew Davis claimed third for Stevensons Motorsport.

“The car was good right from the out lap,” said Aschenbach.  “The track had become greasy since this morning.  It took me a few laps to figure out the pace and then I was able to do a couple of solid laps and get our second pole of the year.  I was able to back up the pole time within a few tenths.  The Pontiac was flawless in qualifying and the Autohaus guys put a good car under me.”

Top Porsche was Eric Lux in the #86 Farnbacher Loles GT3.
