Mamerow SLS Takes The Win As Porsche And BMW Fill Out The Podium

The second VLN race of the season was clearly the Mamerow-Racing show. Chris Mamerow and Armin Hahne dominated the 4 hour race at will, taking pole-position and the win. Only during their pit stops did the duo surrender their lead.

In the qualifying session, Chris Mamerow laid down his cards positing a 8:13.730 minute time and showing that he is one of the fastest drivers on the Green Hell. Their victory after 28 laps was never in question. “Overall we are very happy with the performance of our car; we have a lot of good partners who enable such a performance,” said a very pleased Chris Mamerow after the race. “But today’s victory was not as easy as it seemed, we had to fight all the time.”

The Manthey-Porsche 911 GT3 R of Timo Bernhard, Lucas Luhr and Romain Dumas crossed the line in second place. After starting from eighth position, Dumas was working himself constantly through the field before turning over the car to Bernhard, and then it was Luhr’s turn to bring the Porker home. Timo Bernhard: “We had no problems at all today and we were able to collect a lot of data in preparation for our assault on the 24 Hours Nürburgring.”

Filling out the podium was the BMW M3 GT of Dirk Werner, Dirk Adorf and Dirk Müller. It was a fairly easy race for the BMW until the final lap when Adorf was put under a lot of pressure by Lance-David Arnold in the Heico Motorsport Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. “Lance’s closing speed was super fast and when he was right behind me I had to pull out some of the old Nordschleifen tricks,” said Adorf after the race. “Because I was able to keep Lance behind me I am super pleased with this result.”

The best Audi was that of Marc Basseng, Frank Stippler and Marcel Fässler finishing in sixth place. The Hybrid-Porsche in the hands of Jörg Bergmeister, Patrick Long and Marco Holzer crossed the line in eleventh position. The new Volkswagen Golf GT24 finished in 20th position, eight places ahead of the Lamborghini of the three Stucks and their new partner Frank Kechele.
