Catching Up With David Robertson A Second Ford Coming? Good news appears to be coming from Robertson Racing – or at least hope to be coming. According to David Robertson, “It’s about 60/40 for us running a second car at Petit. If not Petit, Sebring next season is the plan. We’d like to be able to run one car for Andrea and I, while leaving the other car to some hot shots.” The car is in process, and should be completed soon. Its sort of complicated, but the new car is in essence the older wrecked car, with a new chassis, supplied from Ford. As far as the recent up-grades, David has seen an improvement in performance, but unfortunately the rest of the class is not standing still. “We’re looking at making the improvements that we can, but we’re a small team. We are in process at converting over to run E85, but we won’t be ready for quite some time. Maybe Petit, but maybe more likely is Sebring.” “We’re trying to work towards the future. This is not a cheap sport to be involved with and unless we get some help somewhere along the way, Andrea and I may be forced to go back to work and race at club levels again. I don’t want that. We’ve contracted with a sponsor hunter, who I believe will get us the funding to be able to continue on. Eventually, I’d like to be able to run at Le Mans, but we’re a long way from being able to do that.” “We’d made a bid on the ex-Falken/Black Swan Ford, but didn’t get it. The car went to the Davis team, which has been quite successful in World Challenge. They’re in the process of completely rebuilding the car and may be looking at re-homologating the car to a slightly different spec. I’m not too clear exactly what they are doing, but I do know that they have a good relationship with Ford. Our relationship with Ford is improving, but it’s not like theirs.” Knowing how trick the World Challenge Mustang that the Davis team (ACS Express Racing) has built, you can be sure that their GT will be the same. “We intend to be able to continue to race our Ford GT until at least 2012. We’d like to make it a two-car effort next season, but it all depends on budget. If the budget is there, we’d like to even head to Le Mans, but I don’t know how things will turn out. We’d like to add in sequential shift to our car, but that costs money. "There are other changes we’d like to make as well, but we’ll need help from the ACO. The new Coyote 5.0 Ford motor is eventually going to have direct injection – we’d like to be able to use that motor. We’d also like to be able to use the Matech style full width front nose, but so far, we can’t. We’ve got plans for the future, but if we are able to keep it going may be out of our hands.” “I guess if worst comes to worst, Andrea and I will have a couple GTs that we can race in historics somewhere down the road.” GH |
