Scrutineering Conversations - Part 13

Pescarolo People

Joao Barbosa

“It’s a huge privilege to drive for Henri here and better still it is possible for us to be the first petrol car home.

“I don’t think we will get a chance to race with the diesels, we have to trim the car to be fast on the straights here so of course that hurts us in the turns.

“The new aero though is really good, a big step forward and I believe with still more development to come.

Bruce Jouanny

“There is perhaps less pressure on us than on the Peugeot in the team but we both have the same target, finish and finish well.

“The team is unique, part of the tradition now here, I am delighted to be here with them.”

Christophe Tinseau

“This will be my 9th Le Mans and, like last year, our main objective is to be the first petrol car home.

“To achieve that though we have a much bigger fight this year with the Astons, the race will be intense.  The LMS has been very close but I believe we have a better chassis than the Aston.

Simon Pagenaud

“It’s my third team of the year and of course the omens are good, I have won with de Ferran racing and with Peugeot Sport.

“I have to thank Gil very much; I am here because they provided me with a stage to show what I can do with some good results from 2008.

Can the Pescarolo-run 908 win?

“You can always win a race but you always have to have a reasonable goal, particularly here.

“I would say that a top five finish would be a good result for us in this field for what is an updated 2008 908.

“Our tactic is to see where we stand as the race settles down, see whether we can keep up with the leaders. If not then we will run our own race, squeezing what we can out of the tyres and conserving fuel.  I think we can finish very well.

The pitstops and our ability to do our best with the rubber will be key – a fuel-only stop is around 20-25 seconds; tyres too would mean a full minute. If we triple-stint tyres we save over a minute easily. To do that same thing on the track, we have to push very hard indeed and that would hurt the car.
