The Ferrari 430 Still has Life - AF Corse to Pole

There is life in the old Ferrari, as evidenced by the AF Corse pole position by Gianmaria Bruni, in the old, supposedly obsolete 430.  Bruni came out on top of a very competitive battle, in which the top eight in GT(E) were all within a second of each other.

The early top time was set by the Jorg Bergmeister, and just after setting his best time, he was immediately bumped to 4th in class in just a matter of seconds, as Bruni, Oliver Gavin and Jaime Melo all surpassed the German’s best time.  Eleven minutes in to the session, Bergmeister pitted.  He’d had enough and had to be content with a 6th place starting position.

Meanwhile, the BMW twins entered the fray late, and Dirk Mueller was the first to move, gaining 3rd, only almost immediately being bumped down a spot by his teammate (and fellow Dirk) Werner.

The fastest amateur was Factory Porsche Driver Richard Leitz, driving for Proton Competition.  He set his best time on the last of his six laps, which was a 2:02.942.  This time was good enough for 11th fastest overall  in the GT(E) class(es).  “It took a few laps to get a clear lap, and when I finally did, the tires had two more laps on them that was the best for them.  I may have done better, but it really didn’t matter.”
