Dan Brown, AF Corse Ferrari #51: "We were given a 30s stop/go for undertaking under reds in Q1, which we decided to take straight away. It's a bit of a sod because it's cost us a lap straight away, but there's a long way to go yet and the cars going well. The biggest problem is that we can't double-stint the tyres - they are destroyed after an hour, even at night. That's going to hurt us."

The start of the downpour caused tyre problems for Gulf Racing. Jamie Campbell Walter handed the #69 McLaren over to Stuart Hall a lap before the heavens opened, causing Hall to pit again for wets a lap later. Rob Bell, Meanwhile, handed the #9 MP4-12C over to Andy Meyrick just as the rain began, but theteam di dn't have wets ready and the car had to wait until they were brought out.
