Jody Firth Signs For TDS We’ve already had confirmation of WFR’s campaign in the 2011 Speed Euroseries Championship with Jody Firth and Warren Hughes set to campaign the lead WFR03 CN prototype for the team. This morning though came the news that Jody will be busier still on Le Mans Series weekends as he joins TDS Racing aboard their rapid Oreca 03 Nissan for the full Series and Le Mans alongside Mathias Beche and sportscar racing newcomer Pierre Thiriet. “I was contacted by TDS and had been approached by Mathias at Silverstone last season. I had some initial doubts because the team is, of course, a newcomer to sportscar racing. At the time we were talking to DAMS about stepping up and knew that they were involved with Oak’s plans in 2011.” DAMS will run one of the pair of LMP2 Oak Pescarolo Judds at Le Mans this year. Plans to get Firth, and possibly Warren Hughes too, aboard the DAMS Pescarolo fell foul of both budget and car supply issues, the team look set to get hold of their car well after the European season gets underway. “There was some attraction to a potential late season ILMC entry but the link with the Le Mans Series was a good one, the team are at all of those meetings in any case with the WFR so I spoke again to the team and, with the excellent results that they got in pre season testing (the TDS Oreca was by far the fastest LMP2 at the pre season Le Castellet test) we’re very happy with the choice. “I already knew that Mathias was quick and by the look of things Pierre is already pretty close to his pace. All in all I think the three of us will show pretty well against some of the established team across a full race distance." “And as for being back in LMP2 – I’m delighted, I know from my brief experience with the WF01 that an LMP2 car is far closer in terms of the way it performs to the CN car than the FLM car I drove last year so I think the transition should be pretty straightforward.” The first test of that theory comes next weekend at Le Castellet where we’ll see Jody in action in both the Oreca and the WFR03. |
