ELMS Official Test Days, Paul Ricard - Saturday Morning

Despite a chilly night with temperatures below zero degrees the third session started a bit warmer than yesterday morning’s first session. Except for the unfortunate McLaren all cars were back in action as the sun came out and the temperatures rose.

Fastest overall in this third session was the OAK Racing Morgan-Judd. Early in the session with the temperature still around the same height as it was yesterday the #35 posted a 1:46.138. Half a second quicker than the fastest lap time on Friday and much faster than any of its rivals.

The Thiriet by TDS Racing Oreca 03 Nissan was second fastest and Greaves Motorsport finished the session in third place. The Zytek Z11SN Nissan was the first car out on track after mechanics had started work early Saturday morning to replace the parts that brought its Friday to an earlier than planned end.

Also quick out of the box and lapping the track at a decent pace was the Murphy Prototypes, a much better performance than yesterday. A satisfied team owner Gregory Murphy was happy to share his thoughts: "When we arrived here the car had only just been completed at Oreca, it was still warm. Unfortunately we then lost some time yesterday as the Oreca mechanics needed to fix some issues. After fixing everything, we went out to get the basic set-up. We’ve got a great car, great team of guys that work on the car, Jody Firth and Warren Hughes are good drivers and I am glad to have them onboard." The team’s third driver at Murphy Prototypes is Luca Moro, Gregory Murphy was happy to confirm the Italian for the season. "Luca Moro is here with us and he will join us for the entire European Le Mans Series season. He has Formula Le Mans experience so the step up to LMP2 isn’t that big and he’s doing really well."

In GTE it was IMSA Performance Matmut that was fastest - the 2011 Porsche 997 GT3 RSR still over a second quicker than the 2012 version. AF Corse and Gulf Racing were second and third fastest.

The two GTE Pro cars were the two slowest cars in the session.
