Grand-Am – Crown Royal 200 At The Glen – Result
99 – 10 – 01

Three caution periods may have bunched the field on Friday evening, but no one could match Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney as they took their sixth win of the season. But with Max Angelelli and Scott Pruett finishing second and third, the #99 drivers are still just out of the points lead – with their rivals now tied at the top.

Pruett 354
Angelelli 354
Fogarty / Gurney 350

"It seemed like our car was the best on the restarts," Gurney said. "The car was there. It was a perfect day for the team. Jon qualified the car and smoked everybody, and did a perfect job during his stint. We had a good pit stop at the 45-minute mark, and I was a little worried with the guys behind me - Max (Angelelli), Scott (Pruett), Colin (Braun). These guys are the toughest guys out there."

Colin Braun had been among these three, in third, and on the penultimate lap, he passed Angelelli for second – but Max was having none of that and took the place back at T1 on the last lap, Braun spinning down to 11th.

"It really made me angry when he went around me. I just couldn't stand for that and I went into turn one and passed him back,” said the Italian. “He spun after that and I think that was his just reward. We had the best car that we have had all year. I was able to gain a little on the No. 99, but just could not get a run on him. We are tied for the points lead now, which is great for the whole team."

Jim Matthews and Marc Goossens secured another good finish, fourth, the Belgian making up places towards the end after a good first stint from his partner.

Two races left and it could hardly be closer. The #99 pair still has the momentum, so whatever it is they’ve got on their Riley means that the rest still can’t quite match them.
