LMS Silverstone - To The Finish

The #2 Audi rejoins under the Safety Car now in 4th place.
There could be some very bad news indeed for Embassy racing as Jonny Kane misses the red light at the end of the pitlane after a routine stop.  If the car gets the regulatory 3 minute stop-go that will mean the well-deserved podium will again slip through their fingers.

The Safety Car is withdrawn with 16 laps of the race remaining.

Premat is within a couple of seconds of getting back into a podium position, chasing Bouillon in the #16 Pescarolo with the Charouz Lola Aston Martin a couple of laps ahead of that battle.

Verstappen meanwhile is up to fifth overall at the expense of Jamie Campbell Walter

The #8 Peugeot, Lamy at the wheel we believe, gets the fastest lap of the race on lap 167, 1:31.199, bringing that down to 1:31.166 on the next lap as Jean-Christophe Boullon responds to the threat behind from Alex Premat posting the fastest lap of #16's race so far, Premat though is still closing in, just over a second behind though.

JCB eventually had no answer, even bringing the Pescarolo into the 1:35s isn't enough and the #2 Audi is back into a podium position.

Rob Bell is closing in on a double LMS GT2 title and he posts the fastest GT2 time of the day, a 1:50.065

The Ferrari is well clear of the #77 Porsche with the #90 farnbacher ferrari in a strong third position.

No news of a penalty for Embassy yet but the #2 Audi does get one, albeit a 1 second stop/go, that might be enough to prevent a podium finish.  Paul Trusswell speculates that Premat may have been a little over eager in overtaking a backmarker before crossing the line after the last Safety car.  Premat takes the penalty immediately but the car coughs on the restart, Bouillon back into third, the Audi losing a couple of extra seconds as the Frenchman rejoins.

In a hectic few minutes for the Champions elect the #2 Audi dives inside one of the Oreca Courages and is nearly, very nearly, collected.  Heartbeat restored he continues unscathed 18 seconds behind the #16 Pescarolo.

The gap is coming down, sector by sector, but is it going to be two petrol cars on the podium or is Premat's charge going to pay off?

5 laps to go, 12 seconds the gap 2nd to 3rd

Car 5, gets a 1 second stop go but that shouldn't cost them their 8th place, their 3rd penalty of the race.

Premat's charge is slowed by traffic, he grabs a further tenth back but that doesn't look as if it will be enough. but its 8.8 when the car completes the next lap and Bouillon is badly bauled by - guess what - the #4 Pescarolo!

It's 6.8 with 2 laps to go and Boullon has cleared a gaggle of cars ahead.

Last lap and Capello is away and clear, Mucke will be second and the gap is 4.5 seconds for the third place battle
Bouillon makes it 2.5 seconds ahead for a very welcome podium.

It's Championship wins for Luc Alphand Aventures, Virgo Motorsport, Rob Bell, Guillaume Moreau, Patrice Goueselard, Audi Sport team Joest, Mike Rockenfeller and Alex Premat

With Quifel ASM turning up on the podium it seems that a penalty has been applied post-race to Embassy Racing - The podium finish, richly deserved after a fine run, lost to a missed red light at the pit exit for the #45 car.  That was confirmed by the team, they turned around from celebrating the car's third place finish on the pit wall to be met by a race official who presented them with a 5 minute time penalty.
