Le Mans 24 Hours - Scrutineering 16

More Oreca Nissans!

As Michael Caine (no not that one!) famously didn’t say in Zulu “There’s Tharrsands of ‘em”

Certainly it seemed through the two days of scrutineering as if there was always a Nissan V8 powered Oreca 03 somewhere in the queue!

There are four more to round up and we’re taking a closer look at one of them a little later – For now though it’s the turn of Pecom Racing and Signatech Nissan for a pre track action chat with dsc.

Pierre Kaffer - #49 Pecom Racing

“LMP2 is always very competitive but this year is off the scale!  I think it is very possible that the best race of the 24 Hours will be in our class.

“The thing about 24 hour racing though is that even if everything is prepared perfectly, even if you drive perfectly, and even if your plan is perfect, luck can still bite back.

“Oreca though has built a good car, the Nissan engine is excellent and the Dunlops are good too.

“I am very happy to be with this team. We all know our job, in the car and out of it too – Now we have to look after the car and do it!”

Signatech Nissan

Franck Mailleux - #23 Signatech Oreca Nissan

“After Peugeot left I think that LMP2 became a class to watch, certainly it will be a great spectacle.

“We want to improve on last year and that means we want to win – I think that we could see the LMP2 winning car coming home 5th or 6th overall and that will need our run being absolutely faultless.

“We will try for speed but fuel and tyre consumption will be the real key and with our team having two cars there is an additional advantage, particularly as there is complete exchange on information and data and we have the opportunity to split strategies too.”

Roman Rusinov - #26 Signatech Oreca Nissan

“The deal to run in the second Signatech car came together quite late, so we missed Sebring, but we are now here for the season.

“The FIA WEC though is a long season and we are looking to make up ground in the points.

“It is a different challenge for me too as I have only raced here before in GT cars, where you spend 85% of your time looking in the mirrors for LMPs. Now the job is to beat the GT cars into the corners!

“All three of the guys are loving the car though and loving being part of the race here this week, but we are all very aware that this is a race and a track that you have to respect!”

Olivier Lombard - #23 Signatech Oreca Nissan

“Very few people have won at Le Mans back-to-back, and fewer still in LMP2, perhaps only Tommy Erdos and Mike Newton, so a win for me with this team after last year with the Greaves Zytek Nissan would be unbelievable.

“It is unusual though because it is difficult and I don’t underestimate the challenge from the other teams out there.”
