Le Mans 24 Hours - Significant Happenings

It’s Audi’s 11th victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 13 years, their 3rd consecutive win and, of course the first for the R18 e-tron quattro and the first for a hybrid powered  car at Le Mans and for a hybrid powered diesel anywhere.

It’s a 15th consecutive win too for Michelin and consecutive wins for the whole #1 crew of Benoit Treluyer, Andre Lotterer and Marcel Fassler, a feat only achieved five times previously.

It’s a clean sweep of the podium for Audi for the fifth time too, and their sixth diesel fuelled win.

It’s a valiant fourth for Rebellion, and perhaps more poignantly for Lola.

It’s a second LMP2 win for HPD, a first for Starworks (who won at Sebring too of course), a win on their Le Mans debuts for the team, Ryan Dalziel and Enzo Pottolicchio and a third class win in four years for Tom Kimber Smith who also achieves the rare distinction of retaining a class title here.

AF Corse score their first Le Mans class win, as do Toni Vilander and Giancarlo Fisichella, Gianmaria Bruni takes his second – and the whole crew go one better than last year when they came second for AF Corse

In GTE Am it’s a third consecutive class win for Larbre Competition (second in GTE-Am), and for Julien Canal and a second consecutive win for Larbre’s Corvettes and for Patrick Bornhauser.
