ALMS, Petit Le Mans - Hour 7
17:30 Marc Goossens on why the Viper was behind the wall - "We had a shifting issues. At first I thought it was a clutch slipping issue, but the revs did not indicate that. It appears as if it is a shifting issue and they're working on it. Earlier I think we had an issue with the diffuser coming loose. It was causing some real issues out there, then on one of my off-course excursions, it simply came off. Looks like it was indeed loose. Still, it was a good start; a bit of a struggle later, but we're learning." 17:35 The 4 Corvette goes behind the wall. Milner is heard over the radio to say it "feels very weird." We think and hope he means the steering...
17:37 CORE runs 1-2 in PC - some things just don't change, do they? 17:40 While the ALMS P1 sub class has been a bit of a meltdown, P2 continues to be a bright spot for the series. Thus far, it is Conquest (Plowman at the wheel) leading by about 30 seconds over Tucker in the 055. 17:47 Scott Sharp continues to circulate just about a second behind Mags in GT, with Jorg Mueller a lap back. The expected GT slugfest has sort of crumbled a bit. 17:53 Conquest to the pits - routine stop, with just a bit of starting issue. #055 Level 5 to the class lead. 17:55 McDreamy into the wall just out of turn 7. Full course yellow . Patrick is out of the car and appears to be OK, but the #27 is seriously rearrranged. 18:04 Scott Atherton with Hindy - "This is not the end of Petit Le Mans - we intend for it to continue as it is into the future . . . in name also." 18:06 Pits open - Chinese fire drill time... 18:08 ESM #01 Ferrari beat the #3 Corvette out of the pits, even with having a driver change, while Corvette did not. It's now JvO vs. Mags... 18:14 Wow, these yellows are very, very long... l..o..n..g... 18:16 Conquest gets their lap back - now P2 in P2, and just like GT have two cars on the lead lap. A quick check shows that GTC too is in the same situation - the #30 NGT over #22 AJR. 18:21 A familar growl was heard on pit lane - the #4 Corvette has returned to the track, dropping back six laps. As a result of the pit stops, the #55 BMW was able to get their lap back. 18:25 Level 5 #95 pits - Bouchut out, Diaz in. 70% is completed for Level 5 - so they are the P2 Champions in 2012.
