ALMS, Petit Le Mans - Hour 2

We begin the second hour with high drama, as the Green Hornet Porsche with the same driver on board that was responsible for Gunnar Jeanette's accident in the DeltaWing becoming embroiled in a similar incident with the race leader - Lucas Luhr spinning wildly across the track and grass before making heavy contact with a concrete wall at Turn 2. The gap was narrowing too quickly and Luhr stepped a wheel onto the dirt. We are immediately into a full-course yellow while the cars are recovered. There appears to be significant damage to both cars.

Peter LeSaffre is extracted from his Porsche by the marshals, after all due process. He also made heavy contact with the wall. Lucas Luhr is being retained in the Muscle Milk HPD while the medics ensure he's safe to be extracted. 

Correction, Luhr is staying in the car by choice, and he hopes to be with the car when it is returned to the team. He is explaining what he believes are the issues with the car - rear left suspension damage being the most evident.

Luhr is out of the car and masterminding the HPD's elevation onto the back of a flatbed. The team warns him not to walk away from the car, so that the HPD can return to the race when repairs can be completed. There are vital championship points at stake here.

Still under the full course yellow, Neel Jani brings the leading Rebellion Lola Toyota into the pitlane for a regular pitstop.

The #16 Dyson Lola is also into the pitlane for fuel. Chris Dyson stays aboard. The team's focus will now be on keeping the '#20 Lola in the race - provided it finishes ahead of the Muscle Milk HPD, then Dyson Racing take the 2012 title. Muscle Milk's race is not yet over . . .

The Conquest Morgan has moved through to third overall, with Dyson's pitstop, and holds second in P2 behind Marino Franchitti in the #055 level 5 HPD. Pierre Thiriet holds third in class, and is the first of the ELMS entrants for TDS Racing. If the team holds that position they will take the 2012 ELMS title with ease.

12:52 RACING RESUMES
The full course yellow is over, and we're racing again. The Muscle Milk HPD is in the awning and the team are hard at work, assessing the damage, and starting to make repairs.

A telling moment as Lucas Luhr is interviewed live on TV, and gives vent to his thoughts as the HPD slewed across the track.

Chris McMurry has taken over the #20 Dyson Lola from Tony Burgess, and is running 14th overall.

Jody Firth pitted the Murphy Oreca under the yellows, from third, and dropped back to fifth in the process. He's now latched onto the tail of Dane Cameron in the #27 Dempsey Lola.

An off for Tommy Milner in the #4 Corvette, grass tracking and narrowly missing the wall after what looked to have been a simple driver error. He resumes with most, if not all dignity intact.

A change for the lead in GT, as Johannes van Overbek takes the lead for Extreme Speed Motorsports and the #01 Ferrari. Magnussen is four-tenths behind within the lap.

Another pitstop for Chris Dyson - a third for the #16.

Problems for the #31 Porsche, with what looks to be a collapsed rear suspension. The car is stranded on the track, but does at least seem to be off the racing line. Even so, it's another full-course yellow.

Sixty-six laps completed.

The Dyson Racing Lola is back out with Chris Dyson himself staying at the wheel. The car has slipped to 8th overall. Neel Jani leads once again, of course, but the margin over Marino Franchitti in second is now a full lap - or more. David HH continues a strong run for Conquest and holds third by eight seconds, and Jody Firth's yo-yo stint takes another turn as he regains third in class, moving ahead of Pierre Thiriet just before the caution.

Colin Braun continues to lead LMPC from Bruno Janqueira, running 9th and 10th overall. Lucas Ordonez has taken over driving duties in the DeltaWing and the GT Academy graduate is lying 12th overall.

A whole stream of cars enters the pitlane, including the race leader. Marino Franchitti in the Level 5, the P2 leader, follows in, together with a gaggle of GT cars, including the class leader. Marino Franchitti is out of the #055, and big brother Dario takes over. Jody Firth also pits the Murphy Oreca and slips back to fifth in class.

13:18 RACING RESUMES
After another fairly lengthy pause, we're back and racing again.

Tommy Milner moves through to 6th in GT, taking Cioci in the #60 AF Corse Ferrari. The caution period has closed everyone down, and there are battles a-plenty throughout the field. Jody Firth makes a visit to the pitlane to fulfil a penalty - infringement unknown, but thought to be a "late decision" to make the previous pitstop, and cutting across the entry line.

A spin for one of the Dyson Lolas, thought to be Chris Dyson himself, but unclear.

That last caution period has played out well for some teams and disastrously for others. Dario Franchitti has resumed in 5th overall, fourth in P2, and well off the class-leading position his brother created. David Heinemeier Hansson leads the class from second overall, with Pierre Thiriet second for TDS, and Jacques Nicolet has moved back through to fourth for Oak. No such problems for the DeltaWing, though, and Ordonez is back into the top-ten with the #0, seven seconds off the back end of Chris McMurry in the #20 Dyson Racing Lola Mazda.

All-change in GT as well, with Dominik Farnbacher leading the class now for SRT, with the #91 Viper five seconds clear of Jorg Mueller (#55 BMW) but having completed just one pitstop so far. Having started from the back of the grid, one assumes a very full tank at the start!

Henrique Cisneros (#30 NGT Motorsport Porsche) now leads GTC by almost 10 seconds from Sean Johnson in the #11 JDX Racing 911. Both are due further pitstops shortly.
